Joint effort of Professional Accounting Organisations and Auditors General to drive public sector professionalisation

The third meeting of the Interim Oversight Board (IOB) for the Professionalisation of Public Sector Accounting and Auditing in Africa was held in Nairobi, Kenya from 6 to 7 July 2017. It was the first IOB meeting to include five members nominated by the Pan-African Federation of Accountants (PAFA). These new members joined the existing IOB membership of five Auditors General from within the AFROSAI-E region. 

AFROSAI-E affirms commitment to curbing IFFs

AFROSAI-E collaborates with African public finance networks to sign a Good Financial Governance Declaration to affirm their commitment to curbing IFFs

AFROSAI-E is collaborating with AFROSAI and other African public finance role-players to tackle the critical issue of curbing Illicit Financial Flows. Executive Officer, Wynand Wentzel joined 250 delegates from 42 countries attended an international conference on the theme “Tackling Illicit Financial Flows: An African approach to a global phenomenon” in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from 24 – 26 May 2017. The conference resulted in four African Good Financial Governance (GFG) networks, as organisers of the conference, and several delegates signing the Good Financial Declaration. The Declaration lists agreements of joint and individual actions to be carried out by the networks and its members in the fight against IFFs.

A professionalisation strategy by Africa for Africa

In the last six months, we’ve made exciting progress on our AFROSAI-E Professionalisation Strategy. The strategy aims to bring stakeholders together at a regional level to “set the standard for public sector accounting and auditing professionals, and provide the tools to turn this standard into reality” (click here to obtain more information about the strategy). The strategy is currently in an awareness raising phase. The mantra for 2017 is to “Create awareness and build support. This update outlines the achievements to date

Sierra Leone Auditor General Receives National Award

The Auditor General of Sierra Leone, Mrs Lara Taylor-Pearce has been decorated with the award of "Grand Officer of the Order of the Rokel" by His Excellency the President, Dr Ernest Bai Koroma. The prestigious award was presented to the Auditor General during the nation’s 56th Independence anniversary on 27 April 2017 at a grand ceremony at State House, Freetown.
